UPDATE! PHASE 2 CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN!

Newark, OH - Construction begins on Phase II of former warehouse redevelopment with rarepublic/private partnership funding a cafe, lounge and industrial loft apartments.

Newark Station, at 325 W. Main Street, continues to progress in building a community hub. As of the first week in 2023, construction on Phase II of the project officially commenced with the support of a historic public/private partnership including North Valley Bank and the Small Business Administration. This phase includes Earthworks Cafe & Lounge and 18 unique loft apartments.

Earthworks Cafe & Lounge will offer a truly unique environment for coffee, dining, entertainment, and more. The construction of the space is estimated to be completed in summer 2023. Once open, Earthworks will operate seven days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as coffee roasted on site and a robust menu of beer, wine, and spirits. Follow along on Instagram (@earthworks.coffee) for live updates including menu items and sneak peeks of the new space.

In the fall of 2023, 18 loft apartments at Newark Station are expected to be move-in ready. These include 9 studios, 6 one bedrooms, and 3 two bedrooms. Residents of The Lofts will enjoy a living experience rooted in the historic and industrial character of the 1940s former warehouse space with the luxury of Newark Station’s amenities at their front door. This includes The Yard at Newark Station, the outdoor entertainment and recreation venue completed in 2021. The Yard is set to re-open in May of 2023 with volleyball leagues, concerts, trivia, and family fun all summer long.

Newark Station remains committed to the full vision of redeveloping a total of 120,000 square feet, with two additional phases yet to come. In the final months of 2022, the 100,000+ square foot secondary building was brought down successfully allowing the reopening of West Main Street. Work will continue in the coming months to completely secure the site. The Newark Station team would like to thank The Licking County Land Bank and Watson General Contracting for their contributions to clearing the land for an exciting future.

In the interest of these developments, Newark Station will be looking to grow its team. For those interested in food and beverage positions or other employment opportunities, please email cover letters and resumes to Director of Operations, Seth Stout at seth@newark-station.com.

Newark Station is a community within a community. Todd Alexander (Founder & Owner of A4 Ragtime Band Development) and Seth Stout (Co-Founder & Director of Operations) will be developing this project with the help of community members and leaders. The team is honored to be an active part in Newark’s vision in enhancing West Main Street from downtown to 79. In partnership with the City of Newark, the newly formed Renaissance Arts District will feature Renaissance Park, created by the demolition of the blighted warehouse just west of Raccoon Creek. Newark Station will demolish the building but retain the historical skybridge. The remaining land will be donated to the city to establish Renaissance Park. The public greenspace and amphitheater will offer unique programming and access to the water.

While the five elements of Newark Station are to be completed in phases, The Yard welcomed a crowd at the launch event over Memorial Day weekend as the community enjoyed live music and sand volleyball. This summer, join us for free play or compete in one of our leagues under the stars, May-November, with safely-served cocktails, beer, wine, and a Tex-Mex inspired menu. The Yard at Newark Station is open to the public Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 5pm-11pm, and Saturday 4pm-12am every week.

Phase two, expected around Summer 2023, features the first floor coffee roastery and retail and 18 industrial studio apartments.
